i am wondering if anyone is aware of a book or series of videos designed to explain evolution to creationists, (specifically the jw strain of creationism if possible) without being patronizing or overly confrontational.
i would like to have something to recommend to people who challenge evolution, but i know that the sources which convinced me would turn most of them off because of the confrontational and at times condescending tone in which it's presented.. some examples of what i'm looking for would be someone who doesn't claim evolution is a fact until after they have presented all of the evidence that makes it a fact and also have addressed as many counter-arguments as possible..

we all know that one of the major advantages the society now has with everything being on its official website, is the ability to quickly change content when they desire.. so older articles that show them to have made mistakes, are simply re-written or edited...or even just deleted!
simple!
"nothing to see here...carry on".
@smiddy,
That's because JW are an irrelevant fringe sect. Why should other people even bother?
For a JW, JW are the center of the universe. In a JW mind, religious leaders and heads of state alike are discussing JW activity on a daily basis.
In reality, almost nobody knows them. Those who do, don't know anything beyond 'no Christmas' or 'no blood'. Which also sadly means they don't know the real nature of this cult.
How different would the world be without JW? Not at all (apart from some tens of thousands of families having different relations as most of us experience personally).
so the other day someone asked me what use was it to make the list of countries in which there have been reports.... well... to know that, as far as i can tell, there has never been preaching done in oman.. it has never appeared in any report, and the reports go back to 1926!.
all other countries and lands have appeared, but not oman.. so there... first useful fact about the watchtower that we can get from 90 years of data..
Interesting!
You checked for Masqat or Maskat as well? (I guess so)
in another topic changes in the nwt, one of the correspondents posted that.
concerning the comma in luke 23:43, http://www.dtl.org/alt/comments/today.htmhas some interesting comments.. .
to summarize what was stated at this website, the translator selected a translation for luke 23:43. .
I just noticed that in Watchtowers own interlinear translation the Greek text contains a comma...guess where?
Right after 'I say'....
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ᾿Αμήν σοιto λέγω, σήμερονtoday μετ’ ἐμοῦme ἔσῃ ἐνin τῷ παραδείσῳ.

i cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.
are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.
They all believe you live and die
Depending on your definition of dying, they don't even agree on that.
this show is a.m.a.z.i.n.g!!!!.
...anyone that has been in a strict religion.
...anyone that has been in a high control cult or movement/organization.
Have downloaded but not yet watched season 1.
How would very in dub spouses react?
so my parents continue to pester me about getting baptized.
the other day my dad told me that i was old enough to make a decision, and was wondering why i wasn't ready (assembly is in a few weeks) so i told him calmly that i have many doubts and if i were to get baptized it has to be 100 percent my idea.
he was a little annoyed by this, and now wants to study the "is there a creator that cares about you" book (which is complete bs) with me.
The other day my Dad told me that I was old enough to make a decision
You can ask him if he really thinks you're mature enough to make a decision yourself regarding baptism.
If he says yes, ask him if that means he would support you if no matter what mature decision you make?
Would he really accept it to be your decision?
Or does he think you're only mature enough to nod and do as he says? Does Jehovah force anyone? (Actually yes, but JWs maintain he doesn't;-)
Respectfully discuss this with him. Either he agrees you're mature enough to make your own decision no matter what, or not. In either case you shouldn't get baptised.
in response to this thread.
i've put forward the argument that i believe that the 'organization' is financially effectively bleeding itself dry - it is actually financially imploding.. i believe that over the last 45 or so years, in particular, it has evolved from a relatively 'lean machine' into what is now a huge unwieldy organization.
as an organization grows i would expect increased efficiency through by both economies of scale, and advances in technology.. how has the watchtower organization fared?....
Interesting overview!
I'm wondering. who are counted in these numbers?
In 1959 and many decades after that all Bethelites were full timers living at Bethell.
Now the numbers may include a lot of workers who are hardly ever near a Bethell, and who likely provide for their own living expenses.
i guess tax payers get to subsidize the conventions, who knew!.

no wonder they really push people to book through the congregation rather than privately, directly - it's all about the rebates!.
Great find.
They also get complimentary rooms or upgrades to executive suites for each 40 or 50 rooms they manage to sell to the dubs.
you guys do know that if you just leave and never go back you wont be disfellowshiped right?
i know people who have done exactly this.
you have to commit a sin and you or someone else has to tell a elder.
Morpheus,
So true!
He surely knows we are a 'lost cause' to JWdom. From a JW viewpoint, Believer has absolutely no valid reason to read here, let alone post anything here. The only reason he does so is his unconscious need to break free.
- The 5 stages of grief and loss are:
- 1. Denial and isolation;
- 2. Anger;
- 3. Bargaining;
- 4. Depression;
- 5. Acceptance.
- People who are grieving do not necessarily go through the stages in the same order or experience all of them.
